Top Award Crowns Successful Year - 17 January 2007
LBS Builders’ Merchants have beaten over 1500 national and independent builders’ merchants from all over the UK in the National Builders’ Merchants Awards for Excellence 2006 winning the Award for Achievement of the Year. At an awards ceremony held at the Savoy Hotel, London on the 24th November LBS scooped this prestigious award. This is the third time LBS have been recognised in these awards having previously been runners up in the categories for Marketing and Customer Service over the last three years.
Reflecting the status of LBS as being one of the leading Builders’ Merchants in the UK and also a true reflection of what the business has achieved over the last 12 months, LBS is now a significant employer in the area with c.190 staff throughout a network of 10 branches across South West Wales.
“Winning this award could not have been achieved without the contribution from all of the staff across the LBS business and the commitment they give in ensuring that our customers get the best service they need to maintain our position as the leading builders’ merchants in the areas in which we trade” says Managing Director Mark Davies.
With a strategy for continual growth, 2006 has seen two branch openings; firstly Pembroke Dock in March and secondly the acquisition of an independent merchant in Swansea in August. The company has also made significant investment in a major refurbishment and expansion programme in a number of the yards to accommodate growing demand.
To reflect a growing business LBS have increased their expertise with the growth of their management team, and increased resource in Sales, Marketing and Training.
The last 12 months has also seen the relaunch of the kitchens and bathrooms side of the LBS business under the separate proposition and brand of Middleton, with newly designed modern showrooms in Ammanford, Llandeilo, Pembroke Dock and Port Talbot all showcasing quality products from leading manufacturers.
Other key initiatives this year have included the design and development of the company’s web site (www.lbsbm.co.uk) and the launch of the new LBS Loyalty Discount Card for non trade, DIY customers with exclusive double discounts, special offers and regular newsletters.
Winning this award really is the icing on the cake for LBS, with 2006 being their 75th anniversary of trading, having come a long way since a single branch - Llandeilo Builders Supplies in 1931.
